The Study Session Is the Problem
Every popular method assumes the same thing: that somewhere in your day there's a clean, quiet half hour when you're alert, undistracted and willing.
Look at your actual week. Where is it? Not the morning, that's a scramble. Not lunch. Not straight after work, when you're finished. Not the evening, when the alternative is a sofa and you are only human.
The study-shaped gap doesn't exist. So the app sits there, and the guilt accumulates, and the guilt makes opening it worse, and eventually you stop altogether.
You didn't fail to study. You were sold a method that requires a life nobody has.
Studying Trains the Wrong Thing Anyway
Even on the days you do sit down, look at what studying consists of. Reading. Reviewing. Recognising. Checking. Consuming and confirming.
Speaking is none of those. Speaking is a fast, physical, automatic production skill, and it develops the way fast physical automatic skills develop — by doing the movement over and over until it stops needing you.
You can't study your way to that any more than you can study your way to riding a bike. The information was never the obstacle.
What Replaces the Session
Nothing. That's the point.
Language goes into the hours you're already spending and were never going to spend studying. Driving. Cooking. Walking the dog. Your hands and eyes are busy, your ears are free, and your mouth can move.
No decision to make. No time to protect. Nothing to feel guilty about missing, because there's nothing scheduled to miss.
The Part That Keeps Working
Then the headphones come off and it carries on without you — a phrase looping in a meeting, in the shower, halfway through something else entirely.
That's rehearsal you didn't do. It appears on no tracker anywhere, and it's most of the learning.
Stop studying. You were never going to, and it wasn't going to work.
